Supporters of President Donald Trump identify themselves as part of the "MAGA" (“Make America Great Again”) movement. And the reasons for supporting him and considering oneself a part of this group aren't really complex. Most of Trump’s supporters aren’t Republicans. In fact, I would venture to say that the vast majority of MAGA people don’t trust Republicans as far as they could be thrown.
The Republicans for too long were part and parcel of what I have called for years the vast United Republocrat Establishment Party. Democrats ran the show and Republicans feebly went along to get along, compromising on most of their so-called ‘core beliefs’ for fear that the polls (that we now know are run by pro-Democratic Party organizations) would sway away from them. They refused to listen to their constituents and mostly their constituents were fearful to vote them out for fear that Democrats would completely take over and ignore them even worse.
Then a rank outsider showed up. He didn’t give a rat’s patootie what Republicans thought, or Democrats for that matter. In fact, he had BEEN a Democrat much of his life. But he was fed up that both parties appeared to be totally uncaring about The People. So, against the advice of nearly everyone he knew, Donald Trump decided to run for office.
He saw the rage, frustration and anger of Americans and decided that the status quo was not a good thing. He saw the anger of people who could barely get by on the wages of two-and-a-half jobs. He saw the frustration of people unable to afford even a 'starter' house. He felt the frustration of a military-industrial-congressional complex that started wars with fury and determination and then piddle it all away in fear of international criticism. So, in the past 9 years Donald J. Trump has transformed the Republican Party into a powerful voice for those who want smaller government, who fear a police state, who hate losing winnable wars, and who hate being lied to by the media, the government, and career politicians.
And it has scared the $#1t out of the media, the government, and career politicians. They know, as do his MAGA supporters, that if he succeeds that everything they have built - the behind the scenes corruption, the militarized government agencies targeting political opponents, the cushy lifestyles, the fantastic retirement packages, the wealth built through war, etc., etc., etc. - are going away.
Americans will see higher wages, lower taxes, a stronger economy,
less corruption (something Trump knows a lot about having had to deal
with being a developer in NYC), stronger families, better education,
and so much more. He's set on ridding Americans of useless government agencies such as the Department of Education, an agency that is completely useless and has failed miserably to put American students back on pace to first in the world. America's schools today aren't even in the top twenty worldwide.
With the last election, Trump now has a mandate. And he will use it. It’s gonna be a wild ride, but it will be worth it.
